The body brush is the main grooming brush. It is generally used for
cleaning the coat, removing scurf and dust, and for brushing out
the mane and tail. The close-set hairs of the brush are designed
to reach right through the coat to the skin beneath, lifting and
removing dirt and creating a shine. Use short circular strokes over
the body, finishing each stroke in the direction of the lay of the
coat. Use in conjunction with a metal curry comb, after
four or five strokes of the body brush - draw the brush across the
teeth of the curry comb to dislodge the dirt. You could also use
a rubber or plastic curry comb to keep your body brush clean.

Our pure hair body brushes are ideal for traditional
quartering and strapping. Quartering is the act of using
a body brush and a curry comb to quickly brush off a clipped
stabled horse before exercise. Fold the rugs half back
to do the neck and shoulders, paying important attention
to behind the ears, the saddle patch and girth region.
Then reverse and fold the rug forward to do the quarters.
End up by brushing any straw or shavings out of the tail.
For removing stubborn stable stains or sweat marks use
a water brush. (You could also use one of
our natural fibre, duster or “beastie” dandy
brushes for quartering). For strapping see the horse grooming tips page.

BUSTER” BODY BRUSH
The “Mud Buster” is a 21mm trim body brush filled with

back with woven strap, grey Mexican Tampico fibre centre & white
Mexican Tampico fibre surround, 27mm trim.

The traditional way of caring for a muddy
wet horse after hunting or cross country riding is to allow the
mud to dry and then brush it off. Washing down can trap mud in
the skins pores, increasing the chances of mud fever or cracked
heels. The “Mud
Buster” body brush and Mexican fibre body brush are both
ideal for removing dry mud - even from under bellies. Both brushes
are tough on dirt but not rough on the horse or pony.
PVC BODY BRUSHES
A two colour versatile body brush for use on all horse and pony types.
Also good for brushing out tails. The small size is ideal for young
children to use. Lacquered wood back with matching woven strap. 27mm
trim.

When grooming the tail, hold the tail in
one hand and the body brush in the other, and allow a few strands
of hair to escape at a time, gently brush these out and repeat until
you have brushed out the whole tail.
