The Hill Brush Company & Salmon Products

The Hill Brush Company is a traditional British family business that has been making brushes under the ‘Salmon Products’ label since 1922. In the early days brooms were our main product, since then we have expanded into making a whole range of brushes, for many environments, including hygiene, industry and outdoors. Today we manufacture over 1,000 different lines and over 3 million brushes a year, selling to more than 40 countries worldwide. These include a comprehensive range of equestrian brushes and grooming equipment varying from colourful modern brushes to hard-wearing traditional ones. We also produce stable management equipment and of course brooms.

We pride ourselves on producing brushes that are top quality and long lasting. We use 20 different natural and synthetic fibres in our brushes and often mix materials to get the best properties of each. In general, natural fibres are gentler on the horse’s skin and have better cleaning characteristics than synthetic ones. They also tend to wear more evenly after prolonged use. Our range of body and dandy brushes in natural fibres are second to none, and our pure goat hair body brush is renowned for giving the horse’s coat a lustrous shine. However, synthetic filaments are tougher than natural fibres and therefore ideal for removing caked dirt and mud. Generally, they are also less expensive than natural fibres.
We have produced this guide to clearly show the extensive range available under the Salmon Products brand. We have also included some informative grooming tips. See the horse grooming tips page for full details of how to purchase our products.

GRASS ROOTS HORSE & PONY CARE

It really does make a difference if the brushes used when grooming, do the job they are designed to do really well. This is no substitute for good stable management and attention to detail, but a really good grooming brush can help keep a high standard of turnout.
